Click Spam
What is click spam?
Click spam occurs when a fraudster executes clicks for users who haven’t made them, allowing the scammer to claim credit for fake clicks. Typically, this occurs through a fraudulent mobile web page or mobile app, where a user is unaware they are interacting with an ad (because they aren’t).
Fraudsters can use these web pages/apps to do any of the following:
- Generate fake clicks while the user engages with their app to make it look like they have interacted with an ad.
- Generate fake clicks through a persistent background app such as a “memory cleaner,” program launcher, or battery saver.
- Send impressions-as-clicks to make it look as if a view has been converted into an engagement.
- Sends clicks from fraudulent device IDs to tracking vendors.
